WHITE COLUMNS ARTIST REGISTRY
JK CONTEMPORARY
Working primarily in painting and with found object constellations, Erin Hunt's work is informed by encounters with nature, visual and sonic ephemera, and the terrain of thought and image. Her intimate-scale works explore the multidimensional landscape of experience in time through a language of material-spatial relationships in painting.
Using a precise, and often personal language of color and space in oil paint, Hunt's work blurs boundaries in the figure-ground relationship. Her layered works, shaped over time in relation to qualities of memory, discursive thinking, and objects, evoke material and immaterial impressions on the threshold between between subject and environment.
Parallel to painting, Hunt studies plants and flowers, investigating subtle energetic patterns connecting human emotions with nature. Through the idea of a continuous, interconnected field of relationships, her work in both painting and with plants connects inner landscapes and outer phenomena. It considers the creative interdependence of human experience in the wider context of nature, and explores the shape this gives to a sense of space and materiality in creative practice.
Erin Hunt is currently based on Fogo Island, NL, and holds a Master's degree in Architecture and a BFA. Selected exhibitions include the Bonavista Biennale, NL; JK Contemporary, Fogo Island; The Plumb Gallery, Toronto; Fogo Island Arts Gallery, Fogo; The Painting Center, New York; and Front Gallery, Houston. Hunt's practice has been generously supported by Canada Council for the Arts.
